The Seattle Symphony has an extensive volunteering program that is used for ushering, administrative tasks, and the gift shop, among other opportunities.
From their website, about Volunteer Opportunities:

How to start:
Submit an online application, and attend a Volunteer Open House. Then, once you have passed a background check and paid your annual volunteer dues ($15 for students and seniors over 62, $30 for others), you can sign up for volunteer opportunities online via VicNet, the online volunteer portal. Please note, some opportunities require additional training.
Ushering is the most common form of volunteering. Volunteer ushers are paired with a staff usher, and are required to wear a white button down top, with black pants and shoes.
Benefits:
Volunteers enjoy a range of benefits including discounted and complimentary tickets (subject to availability), discounted parking while volunteering, access to Open Rehearsals, and invites to special member events. When volunteering, volunteers are often able to view at least half the performance.
