"Wonderland," Ballyhoo Theatre, Black Box at Edmonds College, Edmonds

A riveting spin on the classic story of Alice and her Looking-Glass World, this contemporary adaption features a fresh pop score with music from Frank Wildhorn (Jekyll & Hyde, The Civil War, Bonnie & Clyde), lyrics by Jack Murphy (The Civil War), and a revised book by Jennifer Paulson-Lee and Gabriel Barre (based on an original book by Gregory Boyd (The Civil War) and Jack Murphy). This is a Ballyhoo Intensive Student Production, ages 14-22.

Our modern day Alice struggles to balance the commitments of work and family, estranged from her husband and alienated from her daughter. Upon a dreamy trip to a Wonderland, she encounters strange yet familiar characters including a Cheshire Cat with a fabulous flair, a delightfully dotty Queen of Hearts, and a malicious Mad Hatter. Alice is challenged with the task of reuniting with her inner child on a fantastical journey down the rabbit hole and into our hearts, learning about the immense power of believing in yourself.

On the 2026 mainstage tour we present Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale, a romantic tale of renewal, redemption, and the transformative power of time, directed by Erin Day. Also on the mainstage, Coriolanus, Shakespeare’s most political play abut pride, power, and identity in a deeply divided country, directed by Linda Lombardi. Backyard Bard will be touring abbreviated productions of The Tempest and The Two Noble Kinsmen, directed by Garth Ball. Performances run from July 10 – August 15, 2026.
