"Lear (Alone)" and "Walking on a Paper Moon," Baker Theater Workshop, ReAct Theatre, Stadium Area

A series of two one act plays inspired by King Lear.

Lear (alone) is a portrait of Lear without his crown, without his daughters and wandering in a terrible storm. He encounters loyal followers, a (possibly) mad philosopher, an old friend in disguise, and a hovel for this houseless assembly seeking shelter.

It's a tender portrait and a challenging one. The rich rely on the poor, the line between the mad and the sane seems uncertain, and Lear is indeed very much alone as he considers what has become of his life.

"Walking on a Paper Moon" is the latest installment of Baker Theater Workshop's commission series for playwrights under age 18.  It brings a new poignant short play by Lorelai Kaplan and Eleanor Iona Edlefsen: a portrait of a small family wrestling with grief, with love, and with broken hearts even as men land on the moon in 1969. And a bit of music!

Tickets are free.  Click here for tickets, showtimes, and more info.

"Li," Seattle Public Theater, Green Lake

A comedy set in Inner Mongolia about a thief who gives away more than she gets, Li may have to reconsider her career choice. But along the way, she discovers a quirky cast of characters that make life just a little less lonely. This world premiere play with heart, humor and original music provides a glimpse into the lives of a thief, her family, an old lady she tries to steal from, plus a friend and his chicken.

$10 "Art is for Everyone" tickets available for all performances online.  Click here for tickets, showtimes, and more info.

"SHe Said," Intiman Theatre, Erickson Theatre, Capitol Hill

SHe Said is a powerful new musical from local musician and vocalist Jen Ayers, inspired by her own family’s journey. When her husband comes out as transgender, their relationship embarks on a transformational path of love, identity, and acceptance. Featuring an all-star Seattle band, SHe Said redefines what it means to love and be loved.

Intiman will distribute Free for Everyone tickets at the box office beginning 60 minutes before show time (mainstage shows) and 30 minutes before Cabaret shows on the day of the performance on a first come, first served basis. Shows at the Erickson Theatre and the Intiman Cabaret have 10 available tickets, and Broadway Performance Hall has 20. The cue may start well before the box office opens and we recommend arriving early to guarantee you get a ticket.

Once all free tickets have been distributed, remaining seats (if any) for that performance will be offered for purchase at a discount.

"South Sound Festival of New Works," CenterStage, Federal Way

The New Works Festival has 3 performance times, with a different show in each slot.

Choose whichever show intrigues you most, or choose one and have a friend choose another and come see two, or,  show your love and dedication to local playwrights and homegrown artistry by catching all 3 performances! (And yes, we’ll have concessions and bar!)

"Currents:" This operetta follows follows the Nakata family from Bainbridge Island, during WWII. Military intelligence, incarceration, balloon bombs, and the Japanese god of wind all play a role in this haunting, beautiful story of a family trapped between worlds.

"16 Days and Counting:" A mother and daughter’s already odd relationship is put to the test on a cruise ship with a cabin that they will share for 16 days. They seem to have found a way to live around each other, with mom avoiding all the questions her daughter is dying to ask her, and the 16 days are almost up...until a passenger is found to have something called Covid-19. It is January 2020, and suddenly their time together gets a lot longer, and a lot more complicated.

"L’Dor Vador:" As the Feinman family comes together to mourn the loss of their matriarch, a knock at the door and a visit from a stranger causes them to dig into secrets and stories they never dreamt they would find. This humorous, poignant, and at times intense play asks us to question how much of what we pass down to the next generation is within our control and how much is locked in our DNA.

Tickets are $10 online.  Click here for tickets, showtimes, and more info.
